B.E.S. Library News
The Brilliant Elementary School Library has had a very busy
year. We welcomed Jeannie Dodd back as our library aid. She
worked in the library a few years ago before deciding to stay
home with Hanna and Haley. Now that they are in school, we are
happy to have her back with us at B.E.S.
Our goal this year was to “weed” the older books from the
biography section and replace those books with newer editions.
We are happy to say that we have several new biographies as well
as Accelerated Reader Tests to go with each book. We have added
about 250 new books to our collection this year, most of them AR
books. These new books can be found in the Easy section, Short
Chapter Book section, Fiction section, and Non-fiction section
of the library. We’ve tried to choose items that appeal to
every reader in our school.
Our students have been reading and taking AR tests in
anticipation of earning prizes at the end of the school year.
Each year the library rewards students who have earned at least
5 points after reading and taking the computerized AR tests.
The following students are to be commended for having earned
over 100 points thus far this school year:
Lauren Kois (250 points)
Hanna Dodd (173 points)
Holly Prescott (144 points)
Kimberly Armstrong ( 126 points)
Dawson Cotton (123 points)
Boake Wilds (114 points)
Horacio Montano (109 points)
We expect these points to climb even higher as we reach our
deadline date of Fri., May 4.
Another addition to our collection is the Music Box. We
have compiled a collection of DVD’s and CD’s about different
styles of music for teachers to share with their students. This
collection was made possible by various donations to honor the
late Mawell and Mary Frances Gibbs.
This school year seems to have passed so quickly! It is
almost time for our annual inventory in the library. Therefore,
we will be closing the high school and elementary libraries as
of Friday, May 4. We request that all students have their
library books turned in by this date. AR prizes will go out the
next week to award those students who have done such a great job
of reading this year.
Suggested reading lists for different grades are available
in the library, and we will be sending these lists home with
students if they wish to have one. Please encourage your child
to read this summer. Several local libraries offer summer
reading programs, and this is a great way for students to stay
active with their reading while school is out.
Don’t forget our next book fair! April 17-April 23. Open
3:00-4:30 on April 20!
See you there! |
